If you’re trying to learn to be a better artist, gesturing really helps. Just a quick sketch to try and get a feel for the shapes of a form; how it flows and where it is heavier and lighter. The point isn’t to worry about how it looks, but to learn how it feels so that you can build a better model of it in your brain. That way you’ll be better at imagining it in your head later on and you might not have to rely as heavily on references.

It is building an understanding of a thing.

I definitely need to do this more often… I struggle a lot with sketching figures, because i am lazy and don’t have the proper groundwork in place to get them right without a lot of erasing and modifying.

But yeah, um… try this! It’s also kind of fun or something.
